2020 would have been the 35th Annual Festival of Lights Celebration in Wickford Village. As we approach this unprecedented Holiday Season, we want you to know that the Town of North Kingstown and the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce are here to provide support for our residents, businesses and community.
The Wickford Village Businesses, out of an abundance of caution, have asked the Town and the Chamber of Commerce to cancel the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration at Updike Park. As a result, in addition to the Tree which is now lit in Updike Park, additional lights have been added to historic Wickford Village and a Post Road Winter Wonderland Holiday Decoration Grant has been introduced to expand the brightness throughout our Town.

We look forward to next year’s return of our annual tree lighting with the N.K. Community Youth Chorus, the High School Band, Santa’s visit, horse-drawn hayrides with Santa and the music and entertainment that last throughout the weekend.
In the meantime, we want to thank the Wickford Village Businesses and the Town of North Kingstown & Public Works for their efforts in lighting up the village like never before. These lights and decorations are an added addition to the ‘Dickens-like’ atmosphere that is Wickford Village and the return to holiday shopping as it used to be with unique shops and personal service.
To further support our community, the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce has received two grants. A Take it Outside Grant for $100,000 where the Chamber has awarded businesses funding to continue operating their businesses outside by providing eligible supplies. The other Grant is a Business Technical Assistance Grant that enables the Chamber to provide complimentary IT Consulting sessions and weekly IT roundtable discussions through Envision Technology Advisors.
The Chamber has also launched a “Live Local” series featuring videos spotlighting a sampling of local businesses who pivoted their operations during COVID while adhering to health and safety regulations. You can watch these videos on Mondays and Wednesdays at #nkchamberri Facebook and Instagram pages throughout the holiday season.
We know that this pandemic has impacted our community in numerous ways. We hope that adding these extra holiday lights and providing these services and programs help the community thrive and will brighten everyone’s spirits during this holiday season.

It is the duty of the Department of Water Supply to provide water of adequate quality and quantity to our customers and to ensure that the Town water supply meets water quality standards as defined by the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Water Supply
The water supply for the Town comes from 11 gravel-packed groundwater wells located in the Hunt-Annaquatucket-Pettaquamscutt Sole Source Aquifer.

Distribution
The North Kingstown Department of Water Supply is a municipally owned and operated water utility providing both domestic water and fire protection to a population of approximate24,000 people.
Distribution System
In addition to the municipal wells, the Department is responsible for maintenance of a distribution system consisting of:
- 5 storage tanks
- 2 booster stations
- 1,045 fire hydrants
- 177 miles of distribution piping
Funding
The Water Department is operated as an Enterprise Fund, meaning that all funding comes from user fees. No tax dollars support the Water Department. The department employs 13 full-time and one part-time employee.
